We rear a selection of premium breeds — Dorper, Meatmaster, Sudanese, and Balami — chosen for their adaptability, meat quality, and resilience.
Our sheep are raised in harmony with nature, grazing freely on open pastures that provide fresh, nutritious forage. We rear a selection of premium breeds — Dorper, Meatmaster, Sudanese, and Balami — chosen for their adaptability, meat quality, and resilience.

Our sustainable, ethical farming practices ensure stress-free living conditions and prioritize animal welfare, while protecting and regenerating the land. Through careful breeding and attentive management, our sheep produce high-quality meat, reflecting our commitment to excellence, sustainability, and environmentally conscious livestock rearing.
The following are some of the sheep breeds we have in our fold:
Our Dorper sheep are valued for their outstanding meat quality, adaptability, and fast growth rates. Bred from Dorset Horn and Blackhead Persian lines, they thrive in diverse climates and grazing conditions, making them ideal for sustainable pasture systems. Their hardy nature, minimal wool care needs, and excellent carcass yield make the Dorper a cornerstone of our premium meat production programme.

Our Meatmaster sheep combine the hardiness of indigenous African breeds with the superior meat characteristics of modern genetics. Known for their exceptional fertility, resilience, and high-quality lean meat, Meatmasters perform exceptionally well under free-range, pasture-based systems. At Almat, we value this breed for its ability to thrive naturally, aligning perfectly with our eco-conscious and welfare-driven rearing philosophy.

The Sudanese sheep at Almat Livestock are robust, adaptable animals renowned for their endurance and flavorful meat. Originating from arid regions, they are well-suited to our sustainable grazing practices, efficiently converting natural forage into quality protein. Their resilience and ability to thrive in challenging environments reflect our commitment to breeding livestock that are both productive and environmentally sustainable.

Our Balami sheep are large, elegant animals prized for their impressive size, rapid growth, and high meat yield. Native to the Sahel region, this breed is well adapted to warm climates and extensive grazing. At Almat Livestock, we raise Balami sheep under ethical, free-range conditions, ensuring they contribute to our mission of producing premium, naturally raised meat through environmentally responsible farming.

Our Yankasa sheep represent one of West Africa’s most important and resilient indigenous breeds. Known for their adaptability, sturdy frame, and flavorful meat, Yankasa sheep thrive in open grazing environments and play a vital role in sustainable livestock production. Their excellent reproductive performance and tolerance to local conditions make them a key part of our breeding program, supporting Almat’s vision of resilient, high-quality, and environmentally responsible farming.

At Almat Livestock, our sheep breeding programme is designed to combine the superior meat quality and adaptability of the Dorper with the size, hardiness, and local resilience of the Balami breed. Through a structured crossbreeding process, we aim to gradually develop a locally adapted Dorper-type sheep that performs optimally under Nigerian environmental conditions.
This programme follows a generational breeding plan, carefully selecting and improving traits such as growth rate, fertility, and carcass quality over successive generations. By the fifth generation, our goal is to achieve a stable, high-performing local Dorper line, capable of sustainable, high-yield meat production while maintaining strong adaptability to our native grazing systems.
